LightSPAN

Light-based solutions for sustainable power and advanced networking applications.

About the Programme

The LightSPAN (Lighting and Sensor Platforms for Advanced Networks) project explores how modern photonics and optical technologies can be leveraged beyond simple illumination to create deeply integrated urban sensor environments.

Our vision is to transform basic lighting infrastructure into intelligent nodes that enhance energy efficiency, gather critical environmental data, and improve the urban quality of life across Singapore’s complex topology.

Smart lighting network

Key Objectives

  • Designing human-centric lighting models that correlate with well-being and productivity.
  • Integrating micro-sensors into solid-state lighting for high-resolution climate tracking.
  • Fostering visible light communication arrays capable of ultra-secure data delivery.
  • Lowering the baseline energy loads required to cool urban ecosystems.
