Research Fellow/Postdoc (In-vitro Diagnostics)

  About TUMCREATE TUMCREATE is a multidisciplinary research platform of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) at the Singapore Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE). Our public-private research partnership program, HEARTwise – Heart Failure Assessment with Reliable Technology using Wearables and In Vitro Diagnostics – is funded by Singapore’s National Research Foundation (NRF) and represents a collaborative effort between the Technical University of Munich (TUM), the National University Health System (NUHS), the National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS), and the National University of Singapore (NUS). Within the TUMCREATE HEARTwise team, we are developing a novel in vitro diagnostic readout platform for stochastic point-of-care sensing. As a member of the HEARTwise team, you will collaborate within an interdisciplinary consortium comprising leading experts in cardiology, telemedicine, biomedical engineering, acoustics, data privacy, and industry.   Job Summary We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher with proven expertise in mechanical engineering and image analysis for medical technology (MedTech) applications. Within HEARTwise, you will lead the development of a laboratory prototype for single-analyte sensing at TUMCREATE. The prototyping of microfluidic pumps will be further supported by Fraunhofer EMFT in Munich. In collaboration with the Mechanobiology Institute, NUS, assay development will be conducted, and the prototype will be validated in a pilot clinical diagnostic study. This is a fixed-term contract for a period of 3 years.   Key Responsibilities Develop a laboratory prototype featuring programmable sample positioning and an integrated microscope unit. Verify the technology against requirements and validate assays in a pilot clinical study. Collaborate with experts in cardiology, telemedicine, biomedical engineering, acoustics, and data privacy. Write scientific manuscripts, contribute to project reports, and present findings at international conferences and stakeholder meetings.   Key Competencies At least 1 year of proven expertise in the medical technology domain. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to communicate complex analytical results to multidisciplinary teams. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, international research environment.   Qualification Requirements We are seeking a candidate with a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering and a proven track record in medical device prototyping and image analysis as well as experience in diagnostics, in particular in vitro diagnostics. Ideally, the candidate has an interdisciplinary education that facilitates collaboration with biomedical engineers. You will be responsible for preparing and maintaining a side-channel evaluation lab that is in addition used for testing a RISC-V based system developed in QUASAR. You will research, implement, and test countermeasures against SCA attacks on PQC algorithms. This is a fixed term contract until March 2029.   Key Responsibilities Perform SCA of PQC algorithms.
